What counts as a digital signage display
A commercial-grade screen built to play looped or scheduled content without a keyboard or mouse. Unlike a TV, it is designed for 16/7 to 24/7 duty, uses a fanless or low-noise thermal design, and takes content pushed from a CMS. We supply wall-mounted and floor-standing models from 15.6-inch to 98-inch.
Android or Windows: which one you actually need
Android on an RK3288 or RK3399 board covers about 90% of jobs: menu boards, promotions, wayfinding. It boots in under a minute and carries no licence fee. Go to Windows on an OPS module (i5 or i7) only when you must run a specific PC program, a locked-down browser, or interaction software that has no Android build. Most buyers here start on Android and add the OPS later, which is cheaper than paying for Windows nobody opens.
How bright the screen has to be
Indoor retail under normal lighting: 350 nits is enough. If the panel faces a window or a bright lobby, step up to 500 nits. The rule is blunt: the brighter the room, the higher the number you need, or the picture turns grey by noon. Facing direct sun outdoors is a different product class, not a brightness option.
Running it around the clock
Yes, with the right panel and board. Every unit goes through an ageing run before it leaves the plant, and the signage firmware restores playback by itself after a power cut. For 24/7 duty we recommend the industrial A40i board rather than a consumer-grade Android box, and we say so at quotation stage instead of after the first failure.
Updating content remotely
Through a cloud CMS: upload once, push to all screens by group, set playlists and schedules. No USB round trips and no staff member walking the site with a stick. A single screen can also run from USB or SD card with auto-loop, which needs no network at all.
Wall mount or floor standing
Wall-mounted saves floor space and looks clean in corridors, meeting rooms and above counters. Floor-standing puts the screen at eye level, suits entrance and queue areas, and can be moved when the layout changes. The panel specification is the same; only the chassis and the mounting change.
Do you need touch on a signage screen
Not always. Pure advertising playback does not need it. Add infrared or capacitive touch when the screen doubles as self-ordering, wayfinding or check-in. Touch adds cost and a layer of glass that can fail, so specify it where interaction is real, not because the brochure has a finger icon.
Sizes that actually exist
15.6, 18.5, 21.5, 24, 27, 32, 43, 49, 55, 65, 75, 85, 86 and 98 inch. Small sizes go on shelves and counters, 43 to 55 inch covers menus and promotion, 65 inch and up suits lobbies and large venues. If a supplier quotes 105 inch on the same chassis, ask which panel line it comes from.
Branding the boot logo and the bezel
Custom boot logo, neutral bezel and OEM carton are all routine for distributor orders. This is the cheapest part of the order to customise and the part buyers most often forget to ask for until the goods are on the water.
MOQ and lead time
Stock configurations ship from a single unit, which is what most project buyers need for a pilot site. Custom RAM, custom OS image or branded housing pushes the date out, and the exact date is written on the PI rather than promised in an email. Send the configuration list and we will quote against it.
