What it configures
Everything between the source and the LED itself: how many cabinets sit in a row and a column, which receiving card drives which cabinet, the colour and brightness baseline, and the input timing the processor expects. This is the tool an installer opens on site before anyone touches content, and the one that decides whether the wall looks uniform or not.
Which hardware it talks to
The VP and KV processor families — VPx10, VPx30, VPx10H and the VP2060 / VP4060 — along with the FM6864 and LS9001 sending and receiving cards. The 4.0.38.11 build is worth having for three fixes on its own: card detection on the main screen for VPx10 / KVx10, VP10 showing "Wi-Fi" when it is actually running on LAN, and VP2060 being misread as a VP4060.
Before you connect
Over LAN, put the PC on the same subnet as the processor, and make sure no second network adapter is on that range — a VPN or a dock with its own NIC will silently break the link. Over USB, install the driver first and confirm the device appears before opening the software. Windows 7 still works; the VP interface used to freeze over LAN there, which 4.0.38.11 fixes, so update rather than roll back.
Which version
4.0.38.11 for anything current. 4.0.16.0 if you are dealing with a VP board that predates the x30 series. 1.4.3.5 is for legacy single and double colour controllers only — it will not see a modern processor, which is a common source of confusion when someone installs it by mistake.
If the processor is not found
Check the IP first: same subnet, no conflicting adapter, and a ping answer before you open the tool. Then try USB, which bypasses network configuration completely and separates a network problem from a device problem in one step. Then check whether a second copy of HDSet is already holding the port in the background.
Displays this software runs
These are the manufacturer installers, mirrored unchanged for our customers. Version notes follow the vendor release notes. Do not flash firmware on a screen that is running a live campaign without a backup of the current program.
